Websites aren't set-and-forget. Software updates, security patches, broken links, expired plugins, outdated content — all of it accumulates. The good news: a simple maintenance rhythm prevents almost every serious problem before it starts.

Weekly Checks (5 Minutes)

  • Confirm the site loads and looks correct
  • Test your contact form — actually submit it
  • Scan recent Google Business Profile reviews and reply
  • Skim analytics for any traffic anomalies

Monthly Checks (30 Minutes)

  • Run PageSpeed Insights and check Core Web Vitals
  • Update plugins, themes, and platform to the latest safe versions
  • Take a full backup and verify it downloads correctly
  • Check for broken links using a free tool
  • Add or refresh one blog post, service page, or testimonial
  • Review search terms in Google Search Console for opportunities

Quarterly Checks (2 Hours)

  • Full security audit — malware scan, login logs, admin accounts
  • Review and update key page content (pricing, services, team)
  • Refresh photos, portfolio pieces, and case studies
  • Check SSL certificate expiry
  • Review hosting performance and consider upgrading if slow
  • Audit forms, chat widgets, and integrations for silent failures

Annual Checks (Half a Day)

  • Comprehensive SEO audit and content refresh
  • Renew domain name (or confirm auto-renew is on)
  • Review copyright dates and legal pages
  • Full design review — does it still feel modern?
  • Backup archive stored off-site
  • Rotate admin passwords and enable 2FA if not already

Why Owners Skip Maintenance

It's boring, technical, and nothing looks broken until something breaks catastrophically. Which is exactly why most businesses hand it off to a maintenance plan — for far less than the cost of an emergency rebuild after a hack or outage.

Don't want to think about any of this?

Our website management plans handle everything — updates, backups, security, speed, small content changes — for a flat monthly fee.
